My job requires me to spend endless hours on the computer and the internet (often times sorting out the problems on customer computers in addition to locating parts and information); so the thought of spending hours on social media sites or elsewhere is something I tend to avoid like the plague. That said, several years ago I was given a membership to a photo posting site designed for photographers. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations. I posted a copy of poster I designed for Mesa Verde National Park to see what would happen. After a few days I started getting feedback from other photographers on the site. Then I won an award for the posting. Maybe this site has some value after all I thought. So I started posting more photos and after getting more and more feedback I was hooked. It became a place for me to find out which photos people liked the best. That feature alone can make the site worth investing in a membership, but then add to that the fact that they run regular photo contests with AMAZING prizes. I haven't won anything (other than accolades and being ranked in the top 10% of all photographers on the site) but the competition is pretty steep, and becoming more and more so as time goes on. If you're looking for a site to post photos where they can't be stolen (especially when you post them to social media through the site), and also looking for another place to sell your shots I recommend looking into ViewBug.
